Case Study: Eliminating Dropped Softphone Calls Through Structured CAT6 Cabling

Executive Summary

For a fast-paced marketing agency, communication is the lifeblood of daily operations. When a client reached out to us, their business was suffering from unstable, dropping client calls. Because their team relies entirely on softphone applications running directly from their computers, any hitch in the network disrupted their conversations.

We completely overhauled their network by implementing a professional, structured CAT6 wired infrastructure. By centralizing their network hardware and moving their workstations off unstable Wi-Fi, we completely eliminated dropped softphone calls, drastically improving their team’s productivity and client satisfaction.

The Challenge

The client’s business model relies heavily on making continuous outbound and inbound voice calls via computer software. However, their existing network setup was creating major operational hurdles:

  • Unstable Wireless Network: Running a high volume of simultaneous softphone data over a standard Wi-Fi network caused severe latency and packet loss. This resulted in frequent disconnections, audio lag, and dropped calls mid-conversation.
  • Cluttered, Unsecured Hardware: The Internet Service Provider (ISP) equipment was left sitting exposed on an office table, vulnerable to accidental disconnections, tampering, and overheating.

Our Solution

  1. Structured CAT6 Cable Deployment for Workstations

We ran high-performance CAT6 copper cabling throughout the entire office space to connect each computer directly to the core network. Transitioning the marketing team’s workstations from Wi-Fi to dedicated wired drops provided the rock-solid bandwidth and low latency required for uninterrupted softphone voice data. Every workstation drop was professionally terminated with labeled wall plates for a clean finish.

  1. Equipment Centralization & Security

We removed the ISP equipment from the table and consolidated the entire network core into a secure, wall-mounted enclosure. This locked cabinet protects the hardware while keeping the office floor looking clean and professional.

  1. Professional Rack Integration & Patching

Inside the new wall cabinet, we executed a clean, organized hardware stack:

  • Patch Panel Termination: All incoming CAT6 cables from the office computer workstations were neatly terminated into a central patch panel.
  • Gigabit Switch Optimization: We further patched the connections into a high-speed Gigabit Netgear switch to ensure maximum data throughput for all computer traffic.
  • Clean Cable Management: Bundled and organized cabling guarantees easy troubleshooting and excellent airflow for the Comcast Business hardware.

The Results

  • Zero Dropped Calls: Moving the computers to a dedicated wired CAT6 infrastructure instantly solved the client’s softphone connectivity issues. Client calls are now crystal clear, stable, and completely reliable.
  • Enhanced Physical Security: Wall-mounting and locking the core network equipment protects critical business hardware from physical accidents or unauthorized access.
  • A Modern, Organized Workspace: Getting cords off the floor and tables transformed a cluttered office corner into a professional, organized tech hub.
