CASE STUDY: Digital Independence for Odyssey Associates
How DGROM Computer Services Managed a 2,500-Mile Private Network Migration
The Client Profile
- Client: Odyssey Associates
- Industry: Payroll & Financial Services
- Operations: Multi-state footprint with offices in New York, Florida, and Nevada.
- The Technology Stack: Redundant Amazon AWS server environment secured by Duo Security MFA/VPN.
- The Stakes: In the payroll industry, timing is everything. Odyssey Associates requires 100% uptime to ensure tax filings and employee pay cycles remain uninterrupted across multiple time zones.
The Challenge: Moving Beyond the “Shared Office” Model
The Nevada branch of Odyssey Associates was previously operating within a shared “WeWork-style” environment. While this served their initial needs, it presented significant long-term hurdles for a professional financial services firm:
- Requirement to Move: Due to shifting business needs, the client needed to move out of the shared space and into a private, dedicated office suite.
- Shared Network Constraints: Relying on a building’s shared backbone meant Odyssey had limited control over the firewall or network privacy—a critical concern for a firm handling sensitive financial data.
- The 21-Day Transition: A three-week gap existed between the shared office move-out date and their new private suite being ready. The team needed to work from home (WFH) without losing access to AWS or Duo Security.
- The Infrastructure Gap: While Odyssey’s existing computers were in peak condition, they lacked a dedicated, private “Network Spine” (Firewall, Switch, and Wi-Fi) required to run an independent, high-performance office.
The DGROM Solution: The “NJ-to-NV” Private Backbone
Computer Services New Jersey implemented a strategy that prioritized technical reliability: Leverage existing hardware, build a new private brain.
Phase 1: The Secure WFH Pivot
We successfully transitioned the Nevada team to a remote model for the 3-week gap. By leveraging their Duo Security environment, we created encrypted tunnels from their homes directly to the AWS servers. This ensured that Odyssey Associates remained 100% functional, processing payroll and filings with zero delay.
Phase 2: Pre-Configuration in the NJ Lab
While the Nevada staff worked remotely, our engineers in New Jersey built the new office’s private infrastructure from scratch. We assembled a custom network backplane (see image) to replace the shared services of the past:
- Next-Gen Firewall: A dedicated, private gateway pre-configured for the AWS tunnels and secure remote access.
- Managed High-Speed Switch: Pre-mapped for the new office’s specific data and VoIP requirements.
- Private Wi-Fi 6: A secure, encrypted wireless canopy exclusive to Odyssey Associates.
Phase 3: The “Plug-and-Play” Deployment
We shipped the fully-configured hardware from New Jersey to Nevada. By partnering with a local technician for the physical mounting and using our pre-labeled cabling system, the activation was seamless. Within 45 minutes of the hardware being mounted, the office was live and fully synchronized with the company’s cloud resources.
The Results: Performance, Privacy, and Control
- Total Independence: Odyssey Associates is no longer dependent on a building’s shared network. They now own a high-performance, private infrastructure managed entirely by DGROM.
- Zero Payroll Downtime: The transition from Shared Office → Home → New Private Office was invisible to Odyssey’s clients. Not a single deadline was missed.
- Optimized Hardware: By integrating Odyssey’s existing computer fleet into a brand-new network “spine,” we ensured a modern user experience with zero hardware waste.
- Zero Configuration Errors: By performing all programming in a controlled lab environment in New Jersey, we ensured that every computer worked perfectly the moment it was plugged into the new system.
Technical Snapshot
“Transitioning a payroll firm like Odyssey Associates from a shared network to a private, managed infrastructure is a massive step forward for data control. By pre-configuring the entire Nevada ‘spine’ in our New Jersey lab, we turned a 2,500-mile move into a zero-stress activation.” — DGROM Computer Services / Computer Services New Jersey
